Privacy Policy
Ruck Mode is a product of Deer Track Design LLC. This policy covers the Ruck Mode iOS app, the Ruck Mode Apple Watch app, and the ruckmode.app website.
Short version
- Your workouts, routes, health metrics, and personal data are stored on your device and, when enabled, in your iCloud.
- Some optional app features may send a minimal workout summary to Ruck Mode services to generate a debrief. We do not sell health or workout data.
- We collect email, subscription status, support messages, and limited service data needed to operate the app.
- No ads. No ad tracking. No data broker sales. Limited product analytics are used to understand site/app-store clicks and app health.
What we collect
You give us
- Email (for account, receipts, optional product updates)
- Apple ID / subscription status (via App Store - we see "subscribed" or "not," not your card)
- Support conversations, if you email us
- Feedback submissions (optional, anonymous by default)
Your device collects (stays on-device unless you choose to share)
- Workout recordings (GPS, heart rate, pace, etc.)
- Health metrics from Apple HealthKit (HRV, RHR, sleep, VO2 max, cycle tracking, etc.)
- Offline map tile cache
- App usage patterns for in-app personalization (stays on device)
Automatically (from Apple / App Store)
- Install / uninstall events
- Crash logs (Apple's TestFlight + App Store tooling)
- Country (for pricing localization)
What we don't collect
- Your contacts
- Your photos (unless you attach one to a waypoint, which stays local)
- Your microphone (we don't have audio features)
- Your location outside of workout/navigation sessions you initiate
- Your browser history
- Your social graph
How your data is stored
- On-device: encrypted via iOS Data Protection (tied to your device passcode)
- In your iCloud: synced via CloudKit, encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- On our servers: email, subscription status, receipts, support messages, and optional debrief requests. Hosted on Cloudflare / Railway / Apple services as applicable. Encrypted in transit.
Who we share data with
- Apple - subscription management and billing via StoreKit; we never see your card
- Email providers - transactional email and support replies
We do not share health, route, or workout data with advertisers, data brokers, social networks, insurance companies, employers, or health systems. We use limited product analytics and GA4 for site/app-store click measurement and app health, not ad targeting.
Your rights
- Export - any time, in Me → Export. You get JSON + FIT + GPX + CSV.
- Delete - any time, in Me → Delete Account. Removes local data. Email us to delete server records (under 7 days).
- Correct - edit any data in-app.
- Object - disable Apple Health read/write any time in iOS Settings.
GDPR / CCPA / PIPEDA
We are a small US-based company (Illinois). We comply with:
- GDPR (EU users) - we are a data processor for email + subscription only; you are the controller of your workout data (stored in your iCloud). For GDPR data requests: privacy@ruckmode.app.
- CCPA (California) - same rights as above, plus right to know what we collect (this page) and right to non-discrimination.
- PIPEDA (Canada) - we don't send your data outside of Apple/iCloud/our email provider.
Children
Ruck Mode is not intended for users under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used Ruck Mode, privacy@ruckmode.app and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll email you before the change takes effect. We will never change this policy to let us sell your data retroactively.
